What Do I Want?

So, why do I continue to serve on the Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education? What do I want out of this?

  • It is certainly not money or power. And, there is no reason to pad my resume.
  • I prefer to follow the lead that my dad expressed many, many times. Whatever you do, if you’re not doing it for the next generation, then why are you doing it?
  • I want all of our kids to have the same or better educational benefits that previous Oak Ridge students have had. And, I want their children to have the same or even better.
  • It is our duty to make sure that every student has the opportunity for full education, pre-school thru 12th grade. Curricular and extra-curricular.
  • I disagree completely with what I have heard some citizens say recently – that Oak Ridge is not a place for young people. I hope that it’s a place for all people.
  • I am not ready to throw up my hands and say, that because of this, that, or the other, we can no longer afford to give our students a high-quality education.
  • It is the duty of all of us to have a good, successful educational program such as we have in Oak Ridge, which means that all groups have to work together — students, teachers, parents, administrators, school board, and city council. The education of our kids is not just a school board issue.
